about-UsDear Parents,
Welcome to Steps Rehabilitation Center! Thank you for taking the first step towards empowering your loved ones with the strength and courage to strive to achieve more. We at Steps Rehabilitation will guide you and take each step with you towards a newer, better tomorrow.

Our center was born out of love and dedication from a mother, Fawzia, with a child like yours. She realized foreign rehabilitation was not accessible to all in Bahrain. In search of newer techniques of therapies for her son, Abdulla, she discovered the Therasuit Method™, created by Izabela and Richard Koscielny. This method, in conjunction with Intensive Therapy, changed her son’s life – and at that moment, Fawzia knew that she had to bring this technique to Bahrain.

In 2007, Steps Rehabilitation Center opened. While initially we focused solely on Intensive Rehabilitation, we have since branched out and offer our Early Intervention – Well Baby Program, Pediatric Physical Therapy, Pediatric Occupational Therapy, Intensive Physical and Occupational Therapy and Adult Rehabilitation.

Steps Rehabilitation is dedicated towards healing both you and your family – holistically. We look forward to being part of your beautiful journey.

For a better tomorrow,
The Steps Team

Physical Therapy

Physical Therapy
well baby PTResearch shows that early intervention has a significant improvement in a child’s functional outcome. In our Well Baby – Early Intervention Program, we use principles of Neuro Developmental Treatment (NDT), Bobath, Sensory Integration and play. Our program is tailored towards children from the ages of 6 months – 3 years (the age may vary due to ability level).
The Well Baby Program is scheduled daily (5 days a week) for a 1 hour session. During this session we focus on attaining the short term goals with the aim of achieving a larger goal, for example, a milestone.

Children with (but not limited to) developmental delay, autism, epliepsy, cerebral palsy, hydrocephalus, traumatic brain injury, ataxia, athetosis, hypertonia, hypotonia, sensory integration disturbances, down syndrome, post-trauma, post stroke and spina bifida are all prime candidates for our programs. These include our pediatric PT/OT, Intensive Rehab and Adult Rehab programs.

Pediatric Physical TherapyWe recommend our Pediatric Physical Therapy program for our special children who do not fit the criteria for our Intensive Therapy, or are taking a break from the Intensive program. This program is unique because of its holistic approach. For 1 hour a day, 4-5 times a week your child will be challenged physically and mentally while having fun playing. The program will be tailored to meet your special child’s short term goals.

This program can be taken in conjunction with our Intensive program, or on its own.

These include our pediatric PT/OT, Intensive Rehab and Adult Rehab programs.

adultThe transition period into adulthood is a difficult time not only for our special children but also their parents. Often parents have difficulties finding a reliable therapeutic center. For this reason, we created our Adult Rehabilitation Program. This program is taken daily for 2 hours per day and is suitable for ages 15 and up.

This program empowers young adults to challenge themselves both physically and mentally. We strive to increase their independence in daily activities by putting their bodies through an exercise routine that incorporates both gross and fine motor skills.

Adults with (but not limited to) developmental delay, autism, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, hydrocephalus, traumatic brain injury, ataxia, athetosis, hypertonia, hypotonia, sensory integration disturbances, down syndrome, post-trauma, post stroke and spina bifida are all prime candidates for our programs.

Occupational Therapy

About the Therasuit Program

Our Intensive Rehabilitation Program is tailored towards children from the age of 3 – 15. This program is the preferred method used for children with neuromuscular disorders or traumatic brain injuries. Performed one-to-one, the Intensive Program focuses on strengthening and flexibility with the use of the Therasuit™, Universal Exercise Unit, Spider cage and progressive resistance exercises. The program is taken 2-3 hours per day, for a 4 week period. During this program, your Therasuit™ certified therapist will incorporate occupational, physical, play and song while working towards achieving the short/long term goals.

Your Therasuit™ certified therapist will also guide you to learning and understanding your child’s condition, so that once a block session is over, you or your chosen caregiver can take over the therapy for a maintenance period. Your therapist will provide you with a tailored home program for you or your child’s caregiver to concentrate on during this maintenance period.
The program allow for a smooth transition from the center to home.

The Therasuit Method® is a holistic approach to treatment for children and adults with neurological disorders like Developmental Delay, Cerebral Palsy, and Traumatic Brain Injuries. The Program incorporates an intensive strengthening regime developed specially for the participant based on their individual needs, strengths and opportunities for improvement. The Therasuit Method® is based on an intensive and specific exercise program aimed at the elimination of pathological reflexes and establishing new, correct and functional patterns of movement.

Therasuit

About the Therasuit™

The Therasuit™ is a soft, dynamic and breathable orthotic used to improve and change proprioception, restore physiological muscle synergies, reduce pathological reflexes and load the whole body with weight (similar to a reaction of our muscles to the gravitational forces). The Universal Exercise Unit (UEU) is used to train and isolate desired patterns of movement to specifically strengthen the muscle groups responsible for that movement. The UEU is used to help facilitate an improved range of motion, joint flexibility, improved muscle strength and functional skills.
